It’s Illegal to carry a BB gun or slingshot in Nome

well, yet another useless law.

13.25.050 Possession of airguns and similar devices.

(a) No person shall have in his or her physical possession, nor shall discharge, an airgun, bow and arrow, or slingshot within the city.

(b) The prohibitions of subsection (a) of this section do not apply to possession or discharging in authorized locations, or to transporting along a direct course between authorized locations, provided the device is not loaded while en route.

(c) As used in this section:

(1) “Airgun” means a BB gun, pellet gun or similar device which launches a projectile upon the release of compressed gas; and

(2) “Authorized locations” means and includes occupied residences, operational vehicles, premises in which such devices are sold or displayed, and facilities designed for indoor charges.

  • they treat them like firearms when in FACT they ARE NOT. a firearm uses an explosion to propel a projectile. not a burst of compressed air,or a spring loaded plunger. NJ says that you must be atleast 18 to buy, thats fine.

but them having to be logged into the same book as an actual firearm is stupid, having to have a card to buy any firearm in NJ is stupid,as well as having to have a card to buy an air rifle, pistol or bb pistol or bb firing long gun.

  • Have any of you been to Alaska? There was probably some crazy Natives, that decided to see if they could kill their neighbor with a slingshot and a B.B. gun. And the law is only in Nome, who lives in Nome?

  • 1) there are similar laws across the U.S.
    2) BB guns CAN cause severe injury. 4.5 mm steel BBs and .177 caliber pellets can certainly kill, and have on a few occasions. 6mm plastic BBs are far less likely to cause a fatal injury, but can blind someone.
    3) using pellet guns for protection is a bad idea for a number of reasons, not the least of which is if you pull one on a bad guy who’s armed with a real firearm, you may find yourself dying of lead poisoning, with no real way to defend yourself.
    4) Why do so many people misspell “retarded” on teh interwebs?
