In Des Moines, it’s illegal to dance between the hours of 2 A.M. and 6 A.M. – The law dates back to at least the 1940’s and just doesn’t really fit in today’s society. There is currently a movement within to city to have the law changed. Hopefully soon if you are in the mood for a little waltzing in the early hours of the morning, you will be able to goto a club to shake your booty!
Men are prohibited from winking at women they do not know.
Softball diamond lights can not stay on past 10:30pm.Â Make sure you bring your night vision!
47.06 SOFTBALL DIAMOND LIGHTS.
The lights at the Mount Vernon softball diamond shall be used only for organized games and tournaments unless permission is obtained from the Parks and Recreation Director. In no event shall the lights at the ballpark be on after 10:30 p.m. on any night.
If you plan on throwing stones or shooting missiles on any public walkway, highway or building, make sure you obtain a written consent letter from the Council before doing so.
41.09 THROWING AND SHOOTING.
It is unlawful for a person to throw stones, bricks or missiles of any kind or to shoot arrows, rubber guns, slingshots, air rifles or other dangerous instruments or toys on or into any street, alley, highway, sidewalk, public way, public ground or public building, without written consent of the Council.
You might face a fine if your horse is found nibbling on the fire hydrant.
Ice cream vendors are banned from the town of Indianola, Iowa.
Before the local fire dept. answers a fire call, they are required to practice fire fighting for 15mins!
Next time you pull up on your horse at the local hotel.Â Make sure they’re equipped with a hitching post and water bucket.
Fortune tellers are not allowed to practice within city limits.Â They should already know this, right?
62.25 FORTUNE TELLING.
No person shall tell fortunes or practice phrenology, palmistry or clairvoyancy in the city.
Stores selling beer are prohibited from placing a sign outside their stores advertising they are selling beer. This must be a very religious town.
Sec. 5 1/2-20. Beer Brand Signs Prohibited
No signs or other matter advertising any brand of beer shall be erected or placed upon the outside of any premises occupied by a licensee or permittee authorized to sell beer at retail. All such signs formerly erected shall be removed by the owner of same by July 1, 1974. (Ord. 49A-71, 12-28-1971)
If you’re a hop grower, you’re required by law to use a box thats exactly 36″ in length to store the picked hops.
Protection of Hop-Growing Interests.
Section 4. Size of boxes for picking hops.
The standard size for all boxes used in picking hops shall be 36 inches long, 18 inches wide, and 23 1/4 inches deep, inside measure.
Doctors treating anyone with herpes or any other venereal disease is required by law to report to the local health board about the origins of the patients’ disease.
The Public Health
Section 2. Local boards of health – diseased persons – physicians to report.
It shall be the duty of every licensed physician, of every superintendent or manager of a hospital dispensary and of every person who gives treatment for a venereal disease, to mail to the local board of health of the city, town, or township located in the state of Iowa, and where the disease occurs, a card or report blank supplied by the state board of health, stating the age, sex, color, marital condition and occupation of such diseased person, the nautre and previous duration of such disease and its probable origin; such card or report blank to be mailed immediately after the first examination or treatment of such diseased person, provided, that except as hereinafter required, the name and address of such diseased person shall not be reported to the local board of health.
