  • as ignorant as this sounds, there became a need for it. This was to stop war protesters from disrupting and yes pushing their way into a funeral service. They claim to represent peace but yet all they disppay is violence and an utter lack of compassion for the families.

  • I see you have it dated going back further than I recall but I know it was used to ensure privacy to grieving family and friends in the funeral of soldiers lost in the current war.

  • Actually there’s a law going back to 1910:

Ok St. Ann. 21-1166 – Every person who willfully disturbs, interrupts or disquiets any assemblage of people met for the purpose of any funeral, … is guilty of a misdemeanor.

  • They passed a more specific law about picketing funerals in 2006: 21-1380 – A. This section shall be known and may be cited as the “Oklahoma Funeral Picketing Act”.

It’s still a misdemeanor, but it now allows punitive damages and legal fees against the plaintiff(s). It was inspired by the Rev. Phelps group from Topeka picketing military funerals here in OK.
