Registering as a married couple at a hotel if not married = legal marriage
Fornicators that register as a married couple to get a discount might find themselves legally married. According to state law, the couple are legally married.

This actually happened to me and my girlfriend, we said we were married and the hotel reported it to the state and we had ti get a divorce and she took the condo.. 🙁
I’ve been looking into this law and I’m unable to find any source at all for this claimed law of North Carolina. Only random sites just spreading the unconfirmed law with absolutely zero sources. I find this law hard to believe, and because theres no sources for where any websites that claim this law exist. It’s safe to say that it probably doesn’t.

Actually.. the law says that it is illegal for two unmarried people of the opposite sex to get a hotel room for “immoral purposes, and that it is also illegal to register as a married couple if you are not.
It’s been ruled an unconstitutional law, but remains on the books.
