I live in south Dakota, and we’re not racist! it’s just an old law that no one pays attention to from when we used to live in log cabins. And by the way, we are a modern state!!! we have malls, houses, cars, and electricity! and we don’t live in grass huts and ride horses to school. although, we can drive at age 14…

all of you racist people are just ignorant. i am from sd and have both native family and native friends. in fact most of my friends are native. dissing on people doesnt solve anything. what you need to do is see people as people, not skin tones or whatever. can you help what hair/eye color you have- NO. contacts and dye dont count because you still have the same color under all that. and what about gays and the disabled? they are different than you so you hate because they arent like you? what you see on the outside of people should influence your opinion of someone as much as what toppings you like on your pizza. its childish and open your eyes and see things for what they really are not what you expect them to be.

I really don’t care about the Indians, I work for a Repo company on the reservations, And since its in Arizona its like a 3rd world country, They are rude to me so I don’t see why I shouldn’t be rude back. They don’t pay for anything, Just lazy.. And they also have the highest rate of disease.. Im from SD as well and some of the best friends I have are native. This law while being racist, also has some use from a fairly recent incedent (depending on your opinion of ‘fairly recent’) that both sides of my own family and families friends experianced. This is whats called as the Wounded Knee Uprising.
For ‘white’ families like mine who lived in the badlands area these were dangerous times, familes were at risk on both sides of the rez border. My own grandmother packed a .38 snubnose, .45, .25acp and others in her purse, vehicle or somewhere close by as did many other families in the area. A family we know from Conota Basin had 3 cars full of natives drive onto the property around the house etc while the wife was home alone and she sat at the door with a firearm afraid for her own life.
Yes this was a law that shouldnt have been around but because of the conflicts of the time it existed. Wrong was done on both sides, White and Native American, and I see conflicts in my daily life here to this day. That being said, because it stays alive in so many ways in this area, whether people here admit it or not, is why racism will never end.
and just like Mack said, SD is a modern state. We dont live in sod houses, ride horses everywhere etc.
We live just like everyone else does. We just do it in a less crowded area
