I guess it is legal to marry your sister in Alabama after all
Any incestuous marriages are considered legitimate in Alabama.
Section 30-1-3
Issue of incestuous marriages not deemed illegitimate. The issue of any incestuous marriage, before the same is annulled, shall not be deemed illegitimate.
(Code 1852, §1945; Code 1867, §2334; Code 1876, §2673; Code 1886, §2310; Code 1896, §2840; Code 1907, §4880; Code 1923, §8994; Code 1940, T. 34, §3.)

- Merry-go-to Jail…
- You can marry your own family member
- I guess it’s ok to spit on the floor in a church in any other town except Auburn in Alabama
- I guess Alabama is the only state to actually require you to have a windshield wiper on your car…
- It is ok to dig for boogers in the car, but it is illegal to flick it out the window while it’s moving

Sorry to spoil the party, but this law does not suggest that it’s legal to marry one’s sister. “Issue” means “children” in legalese so what this law says is that children born of (illegal) incestuous marriages shall not be considered “illegitimate” under the law.
Of course, it’s always legal to marry one’s sister as long as you marry her to someone else.

Common misconception. The closest relatives you can legally marry are second cousins. Any closer than that is illegal. The alabama couple in harold and kumar would be illegal.

I live in the great state of Alabama and would consider it a great honor to marry my sister but she is spoken for so I am marring my cousin instead.

But that only means you married your sister after all. Everyone knows that in Alabama your cousin is code for you sibling and a foreigner is someone actually outside of your 1st cousins.

Come on people, get a clue. This law merely states that the children (issue) of an incestuous marriage are legitimate. Incest (as defined by Section 13A-13-3) includes marriage to or sex with siblings, full-blood, half-blood, or adopted. However there is no mention of cousins, so they’re fair game.
@Michael Ballard: The clergy impersonation law isn’t enforced against people who are just wearing a costume, it’s for people trying to take advantage of the trust given to those in clerical garb. You can buy beer, except in dry counties (which are found all over the USA, not just in Alabama). As far as interracial marriage in churches, that is up to the individual church, and it is their constitutional right to deny anybody a marriage in their church, for any reason they want, no matter how stupid. And no, you can’t fuck your sister, though I think your dad may have done so.

Jake,
Actually in over a dozen states, you can marry your first cousin. Also in at least a dozen more you can marry your first cousin if there is no chance of a child being born to the coupling or if you undergo genetic counseling.
