Can’t get the Doughnuts!
It’s is against the law to park in front of a Dunkin Donuts in South Berwick.
Article III – Parking, Standing, or Stopping
Sec. 15 Parking Prohibited:
No person shall park a vehicle at any time upon any of the streets or parts of streets described:
Main St. (West) In front of Dunkin Donuts to a point 25 feet south.
Main St. (East) From the southern entrance of the Municipal office.
Paul St. (South) From a point 150 feet east of Main St. to Highland Ave.
Railroad Ave. (Both) From Norton St. to Spring St.
Jewett Ave. (East) Entire street
Norton St. (Both) From the intersection of Main St. to the intersection of Colcord St.
Wadleigh Ln. (North) Parking permitted on school side only.
Hey, a former resident of South Berwick.
This isn’t a dumb law. This is just a segment of South Berwick’s parking ordnance that someone didn’t research very well.
The reason why people can’t park in front of the Dunkin Donuts is because this section of W. Maine Street just isn’t wide enough to allow for street parking, simple as that. And it’s not just limited to the Dunkin Donuts, either; people are not allowed to park in front of ANY of homes or businesses on that stretch of road.
Besides, the Dunkin Donuts in question is mostly a drive-through business. But, if you really need to park, the place dose have a parking lot in the back (mostly for employees, but customers can park as well). Why the heck park in the street if you have a perfectly good parking lot, right?
