pEggy, I absolutely agree. My heart goes out to those parents with children that have such life threatening allergies, but the truth is, banning peanuts, peanut butter, and anything containing peanuts from school is like putting a bandaid on a broken leg. Sure, from the time they get to school to the time they leave school, there might not be any problems, but say that child goes to the park and there are kids there that are having peanut butter and crackers for a snack, then what do you do. Do you ban all peanut products from the public park? This is pretty much the beginning of outlawing peanuts altogether. Then what? All milk products, shellfish, chocolate, etc. Where does it end? And someone breathing in peanut butter and going into anaphylactic shock is pretty rare. You actually have to ingest it in order for that to happen. I'm not saying that keeping PB sandwiches out of schools is stupid, but what is your child going to do when they are an adult and in a working environment?

PPPAThis is a comment to Melissa. I had 3 comments, did you read them ALL? Probably not. I started out by saying that I felt that it was a stupid law then said that i didn't read far enough. i knew there were some kids who were allergic, I didn't know bthat just the SMELL could kill them. So, instead of attacking me, realize I made 3 comments, I did say HOME SCHOOLING is an option.I said it not to be cruel, but if they are so allergic, it might be the safe option. I also said that there is NO WAY you can totally AVOID peanuts, unless you putb your kid in a bubble. They could be walking down the Street, pass a kid who just had a poeanut butter Sandwich, smell it, and----I think you get it. Or in the grocery store, where they sell peanuts in the shell. They could get near them----Kids themselves should be EDUCATED, if they are olod enough. They should tell people thyey are allerguic to peanuts. I'm curious, do yiou have WORSESTERSHIRE sauce in your cupboard at home? i have heatrd that even it contains peanuts. So,if you do have bit-----Get rid of it. Are you goiungb to make sure your kid has NO friends who eat peanut Butter Sandwiches? I realize tyou have a hard job. And I do have allergies----a few, just not peanuts. I understand the problem. So, don't go and try to make otheres feel they are not understanding poeiople. DO YOUR PART. As i said,. i wrote 3 notes, so don't judge me. Yiou CANNOT totaslly avoid peanuts. You can try. Home Schooling is an option.

I think it sad that some people are so cruel that do not care about anybody but themselves. If it was your child you would sing a different song. Peanut allergies have become very common. Maybe the ones mad should be mad at the peanuts and not the kids??? To be able to attend a public school with such a severe allergy is a blessing. It is a disability just as other students have. Would you say "don't put a handicap ramp up if they cant walk they should just stay at home" ? Well some people might, but I would hope not. These children could DIE if they come in contact with PEANUTS. God Bless you and I hope you never have such a severe allergy. And if you or your children ever do I hope you come revisit your ugly posts!

I don't think this is a stupied law. For some food's it should be something in place. My daughter is allergic to dairy but Im not going to force no dairy but also just smelling it or being around it wont make her have a reaction. I know alot with peanut allergies just the smell and for a child it could kill them quick. Its not like the children can't go home and have a pb&j just why they are not at school. It will also teach them to be aware of others and there needs something alot of adults have forgoten about kindness and consern for others. Doing that for others can be helpfull for your self also....

You know, laws like this ARE the problem. With each small intrusion into your life, the government, i.e. School boards, city councils, e.p.a.,etc,take just a little more of our freedoms away. Take some responsibility for yourselves and educate your kids. I will not allow these rediculous nanny laws dictate how I will or CAN live my life. You folks who think this ok are hastening the fall of liberty in this, the "Land of liberty" and of freedom. To be honest, I really dont care if you think I am selfish. Give me liberty or give me death!!!!!! I am sick of this shit!!! If you kids allergy is so bad the the smell will kill them, take them out of public school and home school them! But leave me and mine alone!!!!

Such stupid idiots! I've read that "peanut allergy has doubled since 19??, (forgot the actual yr) but you know what else has doubled? MEDIA HYPE and scare-shitless parents who cry about their kids and ruin it for the rest of healthy kids. Its Simple: kids with allergies- don't bring p&j sandwich, kids who don't have that allergy, bring as many as the wish! But crlet the normal kids enjoy a tasty meal!

BTW, this seems less like a law and more like a school rule for that particular school. So the only stupid thing here is that it's even on the site.

A peanut allergy is not like being lactose intolerant. It can kill. Have you ever noticed how many foods will specify when something's been processed in the same places as nuts, because it may contain tiny traces of nuts? Did you think that was just to take up space on the label? Someone else's child may not know NOT to touch a child with a severe peanut allergy after getting peanut butter on his/her own hands while eating lunch. The child with the allergy may not know that the kid next to him/her has peanut residue on his/her hands.

For the ignoramuses here:
"By Mayo Clinic staff

Peanut allergy is common, especially in children. Peanut allergy symptoms can range from a minor irritation to a life-threatening reaction (anaphylaxis). For some people with peanut allergy, even tiny amounts of peanuts can cause a serious reaction.

If you or your child has had a reaction to peanuts, tell your doctor about it. Peanut allergy is one of the most common causes of severe allergy attacks. It's important to get even a minor reaction to peanuts checked out. Even if you or your child has had only a mild allergic reaction in the past, there's still a risk of a more serious future reaction. "

I just read comments from MOTHER OF AN ALLERGIC CHILD. Definitely it is bad, especially if your kid could die. Why don't you HOME SCHOOL your child? I know that not everyone can. But, there is no way you can totally avoid peanuts. your kid goes to another's house, those kids maybe had a peanut butter sandwich--or they walk past a person, outside the school who just had a peanut butter sand. or ----i also read up on the things can contain peanuts. i thought i read that Worsteshire Sauce has peanuts.?i need to read a bottle of worsteshire sauce. I'll have tio see if it contains peanut oil. So, IF you have worsteshire sauce in your home, get rid of it.

i didn't read far enough into iy\t. i read that one's 5 year old daughter is so allergic that tyhe smell could kill her. a person did make a valid point. What if a kid had peanut butter at home, came in, breathed near her little girl. if they're that allergic, maybe they should be home schooled. You can't avoid peanuts. Not really. What if her little girl is walking down the Street, someone had a peanut butter sandwich, came near her little girl. I guess I can see banning it in schools, esp. when some are that allergic to it, but you almost have to live in a bubble to totally avoid it. Does that make sense? Is there an allergy shot for someone with peanut butter, or peanut allergies?i never heard of one, but it might be interestin to look into, as again, unless you live in a glass bubble can you totally avoid peanuts/?Think of grocery stores that sell peanuts with shells. I don't know if that would hurt someone with peanut allergies. Again, any kid thast allergic to peanuts should maybe be home schooled, and /or look into the possibility of an alklergy shot, if there is such a thing

i totally agree that it is a stupid law. parents need to let the teachers, cafeteria staff know that their child is allergic to peanuts. i can't remember who said it, but a woman said her child is 5 yers old. i gthin k 5 years old is old enough to know that she shouldn't eat peanuts. What about peopkle with egg allergies, milk, etc. Stop all foods with eggs, milk, etc. i don't know where this shool is---Nickajack? i remember reading someplace that a school banned a book about George Washington Carver, BECAUSE IT HAD THE WORD PEANUT IN IT--AND IT COULD OFFEND PEOPLE WITH PEANUT ALLERGIES. Now that is STUPID. I read it someplace, and thought was really dumb. again, kids should be educated as to what they can and can't eat, their parents need to be involved. But to make everyone not have peanut butter?peanut Butter is healthy to THE NON ALLERGIC ONES. I wonder if that same school bans kids bringing in their own lunch of peanut butter sandwiches. ??just curious
