Well at least on Sunday, you can look at the sticker shock and walk around window shopping without sales people trying to sell you something.

Sometimes Sunday is the only day I have off I’d like to look in other towns but there’s no time, this is a stupid law in an economy like this one you’d think they would skip this law. Every community needs more tax dollars Sunday sales may help them out.

That’s astonishing, Steven. I thought Harley was one of WI’s biggest manufacturers! Talk about shooting yourself in the foot! Although having the same law in MI makes even less sense.

So it is Sunday here in WI and the weather is starting to warm up. Since its a day off, I decided to run down to the local harley davidson to look at the newest bikes coming to the market. I tried inquiring about the bikes on the floor but was told that since it was Sunday prics could not be discussed. I was at the least shocked and kinda thought they were kidding but when the conversation ended I realized they weren’t. I’m a new resident to WI. 5he taxes, especially real estate, are some of the highest in the nation. The holes in the roads will tear the frond end out of your car, you can buy beer but can’t buy a car? Who makes these decisions and are the paid by the state to serve the People?

I was born in 52, and I remember the dealerships being open in my youth. If it was the industry that wanted to ban sales on Sunday, it would be the law throughout the country, which it isn’t. So much of the work is done over the internet now it makes no sense to not be available to the customer’s convenience. Our economy depends so much on the automobile industry’s success it’s un-American to restrict car sales. Here in IL, I can buy liquor & porn and go gambling on Sunday, but I can’t buy a Chevy.

I agree it is a stupid law. I wonder if one dug deeper that they may find out why the law was passed in the first place. Personal view without research so here it goes the big auto makers in 1953 got together and lobbied (paid) to pass a law. Could the auto makers have gotten together to conspire this? Think business, if all sales of vehicles are illegal, then they all would be competing for the same number of days to sell without any addition strain to stay open like the next guy. They can shut their businesses down which saves them all a lot of money. With the law passed they all could make the same amount of money in 6 days than7 days. If someone is going to buy a car they are still going to buy it,(a little frustrated if you wanted it on Sunday) anyway. While saving money by not being open, paying labor, utilities and other costs related to being open. The Auto industry can save millions in today’s standards. Maybe the law isn’t challenged because the auto makers don’t want it changed.

With the auto industry in the tank, you’d think this kind of law would be repealed.You can purchase anything else on Sunday in IL.They even changed the liquor sales start time from noon to 11am so we wouldn’t rush home from liquor stores to catch the start of football games. No other industry loses one of its most productive days to outmoded blue laws like this. And with the state crying for tax revenue, you’d think another day of sales tax would look pretty sweet. I don’t work for any auto dealer or in any part of the industry, but I know stupid when I see it.
